Welcome!
St. Joseph Montessori School offers a Catholic Montessori program designed to foster a positive attitude towards learning, encourage self-confidence, independence, and an abiding curiosity, and instill respect for the dignity of all humankind. Our curriculum is integrated and designed to help children grow in all aspects of their lives while allowing each child to develop at his or her own pace.

The whole-child approach of the Montessori method fosters intrinsically motivated, life-long learners. The strong sense of community our school has enjoyed since its founding in 1968 allows students, faculty, and families to develop meaningful relationships. This family-like environment is what gives students the independence to fully be themselves and succeed not only at SJMS, but as they continue their education in high school and beyond.

SJMS is located in Italian Village, conveniently situated between downtown and The Ohio State University main campus.

Admissions Process
St. Joseph Montessori School is committed to bringing together young people from a broad spectrum of ethnic, national, and religious backgrounds. We welcome diversity and teach our students to deepen their perspective of the world through respect and mutual understanding. Each applicant, regardless of background, is considered according to individual talents and needs and admitted according to our school’s ability to best develop his or her potential.

Our school operates using a rolling admissions program. We receive most applications between October and April.

Step 1: Submit an online application. We require a $75 application fee which you may pay online when you submit your application.

Step 2: Schedule an interview. Please email or call to schedule a time for your child to meet one on one with one of our teachers.

Step 3: Submit supporting information.

  • Child History Form for all applicants.

  • School records and teacher recommendations from previous school year for Lower Elementary (1st-3rd grade), Upper Elementary (4th-6th grade), and Middle School(7th and 8th grade) applicants.

  • SJMS may request additional supporting information if needed.

Step 4: Additional steps.

  • Financial aid. We have a limited, needs-based tuition assistance program available. Priority is given to our current families. Please ask about tuition assistance so that we can provide you with a link to the application.

  • Younger children. We have limited spaces available for children under the age of three. Please notify us of your child’s birth date so we can give you accurate information on enrollment.

  • Children with special needs. Please let us know if your child has any special needs prior to enrollment. This will help ensure that we can best meet your child’s needs.

Step 5: Receive an enrollment response. We have three possible outcomes following the interview process - acceptance, denial or wait pool. Our notification period is one to two weeks after the interview, provided all supporting material has been received. If your child is accepted, your child’s spot will not be secured until you have signed an enrollment agreement, and paid an enrollment fee and tuition deposit. If you are placed in our wait pool, we will do our best to keep you informed as to the space available for your child for the upcoming school year.

St. Joseph Montessori School admits students of any race, color, and national or ethnic origin.
