The Commissioners

 

A total of twenty-seven commissioners were appointed to serve in the TRC, among them many highly respected and well-known South African citizens. Archbishop Desmond Tutu was appointed chairperson and Alex Boraine was his deputy. Commissioners came from many different countries, cultures, and religious backgrounds. They were also many different races. This diverse group of commissioners assured that decisions made would be unbiased and fair.
