Food often brings people together, and lunch at St. Joseph Montessori School is no exception. Lunch time gives children in 1st through 8th grade an opportunity to interact with friends in different grade levels. With permission from classroom teachers, students who have siblings in Children’s House are welcome to occasionally have lunch with their younger brothers or sisters. And parents volunteers often stay for lunch.
In addition to bringing the student community together, lunch time promotes responsibility and respect. Children are asked to bring two cloth napkins; one to be used as a placemat that defines his/her space and the other for wiping hands and mouths. They pick up after themselves and work together to make sure the area around their table is clean. It is expected that parents who send lunch with their children will provide a well-balanced meal that includes fruits, vegetables, proteins, and grains. Children’s House offers milk to all students for snack and lunch regardless of whether the lunch is catered or brought from home. We ask that parents refrain from sending candy in children’s lunches.
Families that prefer to purchase lunch for their children may do so through Wholesome Tummies. St. Joseph Montessori School and Wholesome Tummies have partnered since 2011 in providing students with fresh, nutritious, and exciting lunch options. Only organic and all-natural ingredients are used in Wholesome Tummies recipies. The food contains no trans-fat, no high fructose corn syrup, no nitrates, no artificial colors, and no artificial flavors. You can even order all of their meals online.
