"Written
language can be acquired more easily by children of four
years than by those of six. While children of six
usually need at least two years to learn how to write,
children of four years learn this second language within
a few months."
-Maria
Montessori
Technology in the Montessori classroom is used to in a
variety of ways. The children use computers to enhance
their learning, as well as a tool for completing
work in other subjects. Each classroom has access to
portable smart boards which enable teachers to present
lessons and the students to practice skills. Memberships to special research websites are
also useful tools for older students.
Each spring, the school holds it's annual Techno Trek
fundraiser. Now in its 27th year, Techno Trek is a way
for students to raise money to purchase technology for
their classrooms. The children really get in to this
event, gathering pledges and walking around the school
grounds. There is a real sense of accomplishment when
they finish walking and relax in the shade with a crisp
juicy apple.
